PRE TATTOO ADVICE AND AFTERCARE

PRE TATTOO ADVICE

To get the best out of your new tattoo please follow the below advice. This will result in the best possible tattooing experience for us both and the best possible tattoo outcome for your new ink.

  1. Get a good night's sleep. Come to the studio well rested.
  2. Shower and clean the area to be tattooed. Apply some moisturizer as this can help the ink to go in better. If you are having a large area tattooed, such as the back, then please shave the area before you arrive. Be careful not to cut yourself. For smaller areas we can shave the skin in the studio.
  3. Stay hydrated, but avoid alcohol.
  4. Eat well before you arrive and bring snacks with you to eat during the tattoo.
  5. Bring headphones with you to keep entertained whilst I'm working.
  6. Avoid taking any painkillers or blood thinners before your tattoo, as this can increase the chances of you bleeding. Please don't apply any numbing creams or sprays as these can impact the quality of the ink. I do have some numbing spray in the studio, should this be required during your session.
  7. Wear loose, comfortable clothing preferably in dark colours as some inks can stain.
  8. Please attend your appointment alone. Being tattooed is not a spectator sport and I need to be able to concentrate to give you the best experience. Should you need support however, please discuss this with me before your appointment.
  9. Make sure you plan your time adequately. Some larger tattoos can take 8 hours+. Leave yourself enough time so neither of us are feeling rushed.

TATTOO AFTERCARE

It is your responsibility to care for your tattoo once you leave the studio. If you do not follow the steps below your new tattoo may not heal correctly and the ink may drop out resulting in a lesser quality tattoo. This would then need to be fixed in an additional paid session which will be an inconvenience to us both. Therefore, please accurately follow the steps outlined below to get the best out of your tattoo.

  1. DO NOT remove the plastic wrap for 3 days. Your tattoo is an open wound and needs protecting. The ink may leak underneath, this is completely normal, just leave it alone. You may shower with the wrap on but try to avoid any activity that will cause excessive sweating and try not to lean on it.
  2. Remove the wrap after 3 days. In the shower is best as the wrap can pull at the skin. Keep it clean. Wash with antibacterial soap 3 times a day and pat dry.
  3. Apply a thin layer of tattoo after care cream after washing. Repeat this process for 4 weeks until fully healed. Do not use baby oil, vaseline or anything similar.
  4. DO NOT submerge in water, such as the bath, hot tub or swimming until fully healed.
  5. DO NOT pick at any scabs that form. Allow these to drop off on their own. Try to wear loose clothing and not expose the fresh tattoo to unclean environments. Keep pets away.
  6. DO NOT expose your new tattoo to the sun. After 4 weeks, when it is fully healed, protect your tattoo with SPF sunblock of it is to be exposed to the sun.
